One app, all the access: Rethinking the mobile wallet experience for AO and Arweave

At Pace Studio, we’re on a mission to build better digital experiences for Web3—products that feel just as seamless and intuitive as the best of Web2.

One of the biggest friction points we kept running into? Mobile wallets.

That’s why we redesigned the Wander experience from the ground up. The result? A mobile wallet that doesn’t just hold your assets, but actually helps you use them.

Here’s how we got there—from problem to solution, and of course, the impact.

Web3 may be ahead of its time… but the mobile wallet experience isn't.

While wallets can be accessed as a browser extension on desktop, and users can explore different apps, tokens, and all that fun stuff right then and there, that model completely breaks down on mobile. We’ve all felt it.

The old flow for mobile Web3 wallet users went something like this:

  1. Users open the dApp in a browser like Safari
  2. They’re prompted to open their mobile wallet (an entirely different app) to connect
  3. They set their permissions within the wallet app
  4. They have to jump back into Safari to actually use the dApp

And apps in the AO and Arweave ecosystem didn’t have a solution for wallet access on mobile:

  1. Users open the dApp in a browser like Safari
  2. Users try to connect their wallet… and nothing happens

It’s clunky. It’s confusing. It’s just bad UX.

And for many users, that’s where the journey ends.

Enter: Wander Explore—a desktop solution, built for mobile.

We set out to fix the broken experience and make using Web3 apps on mobile actually enjoyable. With Wander Explore, users can now launch, connect, and use their favourite decentralized apps—all without leaving their mobile wallet.

Here’s how we designed the experience to be seamless (and stupid simple):

🔍 Feature 1: A search bar that feels like any other browser

The first big shift we made was rethinking how users discover apps. Originally, Wander had an explore tab—functional but clunky. It felt like an add-on, not an integrated experience.

So we did something simple but powerful: we made the search bar the center of the app. No tabs. No extra clicks. Just open Wander and start searching for apps the way users would in Safari or Chrome. This wasn’t about reinventing search—it was about making it feel native.

And for an extra touch, we also integrated intuitive security indicators into the search bar, providing instant feedback on app trustworthiness:

  • 🟢 A green dot means that the user’s wallet is connected to this dApp
  • 🔒A lock symbol means the app or website passes the SSL certificate
  • ✅ A checkmark means the website or dApp is an Arweave or AO platform

Plus, once users launch an app, they’re not locked into a single session. With our tabs manager, they can easily jump back and forth between multiple open apps—just like a regular browser. It’s a lightweight, familiar experience designed for all that much-anticipated multitasking on mobile.

🧭 Feature 2: A new explore page for discovery

Of course, not every user knows exactly what they’re looking for. So we rebuilt the explore page to make discovering new apps feel easy and inviting. The new experience includes:

  • 🔥 Featured apps, handpicked from across the ecosystem
  • 🗂️ Categories for browsing by function (like DeFi, dev tools, games, etc.)
  • Favourites, so users can pin go-to apps for quick access
  • 🕘 History, for jumping back into recently used dApps

One-tap launch into any app—right inside Wander. It’s all about lowering the barrier to entry and making Web3 exploration feel natural, even for first-timers.

🔐 Feature 3: Customizable permissions for every type of user

We didn’t stop at the connection. Signing transactions is a core part of Web3, and we wanted to give users full control over how it works. Wander introduces a flexible permission system that lets users decide when and how they want to confirm transactions. Here are the options:

  • 🔒 Always ask to confirm (aka: Don’t do anything until I say it’s okay)
  • 💸 Only ask when spending (aka: Talk to me if only if it’s going to cost me)
  • ⚡ Auto-confirm (aka: Don’t bother asking me, no matter the cost)

And for advanced users, Wander offers custom permission settings, so users can fine-tune exactly what each app can access and how it interacts with their wallet.

We also added support for biometric confirmation—like Face ID and Touch ID—to reduce friction and speed up the signing process. Long passwords and annoying, manual input? That’s a thing of the past.

How it all comes together…

  1. Search or discover: Find the app you want through the search bar or the explore page.
  2. Instant access: Jump straight into the app within Wander (just like you would on Safari).
  3. Seamless wallet connection: Connect your wallet within Wander—no app-switching.
  4. Custom permissions: Set permissions directly in Wander—again, no app-switching.

Let’s talk about impact

Since its launch, we’ve already made a huge difference in how users interact with Web3 on mobile:

  • 👥 6,691 users have used Explore
  • 🔗 190 dApps have been connected through Wander
  • 📝 213,294 transactions have been signed via mobile

But the real win? Users are finally using the ecosystem the way it was meant to be used—all within one single app: Wander.
